The events of instruction can be used in planning a lesson or instruction. These external conditions or events support the internal processes that Gagne presumed occurred during learning. Gagne believes that lessons should more or less follow this sequence of events, but also realized that this is not necessarily absolute. The choice and order of instructional events and how they are performed may vary according to the learning situation.
1. Gaining Attention
2. Informing the learner of the objective
3. Stimulating recall of prior learning
4. Presenting the stimulus
5. Providing learner guidance
6. Eliciting performance
7. Providing feedback
8. Assessing performance
9. Enhancing retention and transfer
