![]() Cognitive psychologist, Jean Piaget, was famous for his focus on children and how they develop learning. His study examines four stages learning; sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. Each of these stages can be applied to how children acquire the both automaticity and metacognition at the earliest stages. The end result here is how they develop skills for playing games. The ability to interact with opponents and create strategies in order to win are not innate skills. They must be developed. Piaget describes how the development of senses and language allows learning to then be drawn upon in real life settings. In a simulation for example, it is necessary for children to be able to make connections with what they already know and how they can apply that knowledge to working their way through the game. Piaget was born in Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1896. Throughout his young life he published articles pertaining to natural science and psychology. He worked as a psychology professor in Geneva from 1929 until his death in 1980. His discovery of learning theory and processes is studied world-wide.
